I hadn’t tried crab rangoons until I was in my early 20’s (I know right!). I was on my first girls trip with a dear friend of mine and we ordered Chinese food. She was like “crab rangoons, right?” and I was so confused. My friend who hates fish wants crab? She assured me it was amazing. Haven’t had chinese food since that day without a side of them. LOL!

The dip is rich and creamy just like the filling of a traditional crab rangoon, just think of it as a deconstructed crab rangoon. The chips are salty and crisp. I loved making these chips, I’m already plotting what I’m going to make with the other half of the wonton wrappers that are in my freezer. I’m thinking a dessert. 🤔

Crab Rangoon Dip with Wonton Chips

A cheesy, crab dip with homemade wonton chips

Ingredients

  • 12 oz. wonton wraps
  • 1 quart vegetable oil
  • 8 oz. Cream Cheese softened
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 1 clove minced garlic
  • 2 oz. canned crab meat
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese
  • 1 diced green onions

Instructions

  1. Place deep frying pan on stove on medium heat. Cut wonton wrappers into half so they are the size of tortilla chips. Once the oil is hot fry 5-10 chips at a time. Be careful, they go from beige to brown very quick. You want them to be a nice golden color. When the chips are done, place on a paper towel and salt while still hot.

  2. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. While the oven is heating, combine cream cheese and sour cream with a hand mixer. Once combined add soy sauce, brown sugar and garlic and mix. Once combined fold in the crab meat and 3/4 cup of mozzarella cheese.

  3. Pour your mixture into an oven safe serving dish and top with the remaining mozzarella cheese. Bake for 30 minutes. Garnish with green onions and serve immediately.
